Pendant Lamp with Amber Glass Medallion Inserts — Vitrika, Denmark, 1960s

A striking and generous pendant from the Danish manufacturer Vitrika, whose name derives from the Danish “vi tre kan” — “the three of us can do it” — reflecting the trio of a designer, a salesman, and a craftsman who founded the company in 1948. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Vitrika produced some of the most distinctive Scandinavian lighting of the period, consistently combining metal frameworks with amber art glass elements of exceptional quality — always, as they put it, of outstanding craftsmanship.

This pendant exemplifies that approach at its most confident. A wide, flat-brimmed white lacquered metal shade of almost UFO-like proportions is set around its perimeter with a series of circular amber pressed glass medallions — each one a richly detailed, flower-like relief that glows deep gold when lit. Looking at the lamp directly from below reveals the equally considered interior: a concentric ring diffuser in opaline white plastic that distributes the light downward in a warm, even wash. The copper collar detail at the cord entry adds a final note of material refinement. The overall effect, particularly when switched on, is somewhere between mid-century Scandinavian modernism and something altogether more decorative and opulent.

The lamp is in great vintage condition. The white lacquered metal is faultless and the amber glass medallion inserts are all present and in perfect condition — no chips, no cracks, no cloudiness.
