Swedish Nordic Classicism Table Lamp with Opaline Glass Dome Shade, 1920s–1930s

A superb example of Swedish Nordic Classicism — the refined decorative style that flourished in Scandinavia during the 1920s and 1930s, sitting elegantly between the organic exuberance of Art Nouveau and the cooler geometry of Art Deco.

The lamp is built with evident quality and weight. A broad, stepped circular base with concentric moulded rings supports a slender fluted column — a direct reference to classical architecture — rising to a substantial circular shade ring. This ring is decorated with a beautifully cast frieze of draped garlands in copper against a dark patinated ground of vertical reeding, punctuated by small square bosses — a motif that is quintessentially Neoclassical in spirit. The lamp is switched via an elegant brass ball chain with a turned finial pendant.

The crowning glory is the large, domed opaline glass shade in a warm cream-yellow, which casts a soft, enveloping glow when lit — the kind of light that feels genuinely inviting rather than merely functional.

The opaline shade is in immaculate condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. The dark patinated metal base is in very good vintage condition consistent with its age. The lamp has been newly wired in keeping with its original design and takes an E27 bulb.
