Uno & Östen Kristiansson for Luxus Vittsjö — Teak & Copper Wall Lamp, Sweden, 1960s
Luxus Vittsjö was founded by Uno Kristiansson in 1950 in the small town of Vittsjö in southern Sweden. Together with his brother Östen, he built a company that became one of the most respected names in Swedish mid-century lighting and furniture — known nationally and internationally for designs that combined traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive, inventive material sensibility.
This wall lamp is a strong example of what made their work so enduring. The construction is straightforward but beautifully resolved. A solid teak arm — adjustable in four positions and laterally swivelling — extends from a teak wall bracket to suspend a conical copper shade. At the top of the shade, a turned teak finial connects the two materials. Around the lower rim of the shade, a row of rectangular slot perforations adds both visual interest and a subtle light effect when the lamp is in use. The original label on the bracket — “Made in Sweden by Luxus Vittsjö” — is intact and clearly legible.
Condition: the teak arm and bracket are perfect. The copper shade has acquired some spots and light surface scratches over the years — honest signs of age that photograph more prominently than they appear in person. Fully functional throughout
