Trio of Model 778 B (Simris/Olympia) Black Bookshelf Lamps by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden, 1964

This is a set of three Model 778 B bookshelf lamps, also known as the Simris or Olympia lamps, designed by Anders Pehrson in 1964 and manufactured by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden. Featuring a sleek combination of chrome accents and satin black finishes on the bases and shades, these adjustable lamps can be extended in depth and rotated in multiple directions, making them as functional as they are stylish. Their minimalist form and precise engineering embody the best of Scandinavian modern design.

The lamp gained international acclaim when it was selected for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. A total of 16,300 units—produced in white—were installed across the Olympic Village, press centers, and administrative buildings. This large-scale commission solidified the model’s reputation as a design classic and is the reason it is often referred to as the “Olympia lamp.” Its association with one of the most significant events in 20th-century sports and design history adds to its enduring appeal.

This trio is in very good vintage condition, with only minor wear consistent with age and careful use. All lamps are fully original, retaining their original switches and plugs, which operate flawlessly through four positions: left bulb on, right bulb on, both on, and off. The diffusers are faithful plastic replacements made to Ateljé Lyktan’s exact specifications, as the original metal versions were prone to loss. Each lamp requires two E14 bulbs, making them practical for modern use.

Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers of the 20th century. Trained as an industrial designer, he took over Ateljé Lyktan in 1964 and quickly became its creative force, designing iconic models such as the Bumling, Stekpannan, Simris/Olympia and Anna lamps. His work combined sculptural elegance with functional precision, often drawing on geometric forms and high-quality materials. Pehrson’s designs helped define the look of Swedish modernism and remain highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts.

Ateljé Lyktan was founded in 1934 and has been based in Åhus since the 1940s. Known for its craftsmanship and collaboration with leading designers, the company became a cornerstone of Scandinavian lighting design under Pehrson’s leadership. In 1977, the new factory was inaugurated by King Carl XVI Gustaf, highlighting its national importance. Today, Ateljé Lyktan is part of the Fagerhult Group but continues to produce both vintage reissues and contemporary lighting, maintaining its legacy of quality and innovation. This trio stands as a fine example of that enduring tradition.
