Table or Desk Lamp, Model 0091-2, by Börge Lindau & Bo Lindekrantz for Zero – Sweden, late 70s/early80s

A wonderful table or desk lamp from Zero, designed by the duo Börge Lindau and Bo Lindekrantz. This model 0091-2 is made of chromed steel, with a wide shade crafted from perforated steel — a hallmark of Zero’s earliest and most iconic work.

Zero was founded in 1978 in Nybro, Sweden, by Roland Gill and Andris Nolendorfs. The company’s origin story is closely tied to its two founders: Gill and Nolendorfs had both worked at Orrefors Glasbruk’s lighting department in Flygsfors, where they met Börge Lindau and Bo Lindekrantz, a designer duo developing new ideas for light fixtures made of perforated metal — an approach Orrefors itself wasn’t interested in pursuing. Seeing the potential in these designs, Gill and Nolendorfs decided to strike out on their own, and Zero was born, quite literally starting from nothing in the centre of Nybro, which is also where the company’s name comes from. Lindau and Lindekrantz remained Zero’s only designers until the mid-1980s, meaning this perforated-steel aesthetic effectively defined the brand’s identity throughout its formative first decade.

Remarkably, Zero is still very much active today, now run by the second and third generations of the Gill family, and continues to manufacture the majority of its products locally in Småland, much as it did in the late 1970s.

This 0091-2 lamp is in very good vintage condition. It shows small signs of wear and use, but nothing that distracts from the architectural beauty of this amazing piece, made of chromed steel with a perforated steel shade. E27 bulb.
