Table / Desk Lamp Model 600/5 by Gemi — Swedish Modernism in Black & Brass, 1960s

A handsome and characterful table or desk lamp from Swedish manufacturer Gemi, model 600/5, dating from the 1960s. This is a well-resolved piece of mid-century Scandinavian design that combines the period’s taste for clean geometric form with a thoroughly practical, adjustable construction.

The lamp consists of a circular brushed brass base with an integrated push-button switch, from which rises a tapered conical stem finished in matte black. A flexible brass gooseneck arm connects the stem to the shade, allowing the light to be directed precisely as needed — a signature feature of the functionalist desk lamp tradition that flourished across Scandinavia in this era. The shade itself is a satisfying double-cone form in brushed brass with a white-painted interior, which directs and softens the light beautifully. The warm brass tones throughout give the lamp a cohesive, considered quality that feels anything but accidental.

The underside of the base is stamped with the Gemi maker’s mark and the model number 600/5, confirming its authenticity. Gemi was a Swedish lighting manufacturer active during the mid-twentieth century, producing functional yet aesthetically refined pieces that typify the best of postwar Scandinavian design.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition. There are minor age-related marks on the stem. A small dent is present on the rim of the base but does not meaningfully affect the lamp’s appearance. Fitted with an E27 socket.
