Table / Desk Lamp “Cubana” by Joan Augé for Taller UNO — Spain, 1990s

A magnificent table or desk lamp designed by Joan Augé and produced by the renowned Spanish lighting manufacturer Taller UNO in the 1990s. The lamp combines a hand-stitched leather-wrapped base with a slender, gracefully arching chromed metal stem that sweeps elegantly forward to support a sculptural opaline plastic shade. The design is ultra-minimalist, yet the flowing arc of the stem reveals a refined sensitivity to aesthetics.

Taller UNO is a Barcelona-based lighting studio founded in the 1978 that built its reputation on combining artisanal craftsmanship with bold, contemporary design. Known for collaborating with some of Spain’s most talented designers, the studio became a respected name in European designer lighting during the 1990s, producing limited runs of sculptural, high-quality pieces that sit comfortably between functional object and decorative art. Joan Augé was among the designers who worked closely with Taller UNO during this period, contributing designs that reflect the broader Mediterranean design ethos of that era — expressive form, natural materials, and a meticulous attention to detail.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and wear. The leather base shows some age-consistent patina and light staining, adding to its character. The opaline shade appears to be missing a small sliver of material at the edge of the cooling aperture, as noted in the images. E14 bulb.
