Studio Crystal Table Lamp by Hannelore Dreutler / Studio Åhus for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden, 1989

A beautiful example of the iconic Studio Crystal series — this table lamp was designed by Hannelore Dreutler of Studio Åhus and manufactured by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden. The base is signed and dated 1989 on the underside, accompanied by the original Studio Åhus sticker. The glass body carries the printed “ateljé Lyktan ab — Åhus · Sweden” label, and the original cream fabric shade retains its woven Ateljé Lyktan label — a fully intact, thoroughly authenticated example.

The handblown glass base is elegant in its simplicity: an opaque white body with a softly marbled, milky quality, rising from a wide, gently domed foot through a graceful hourglass form to a polished brass fitting at the top. The pull-switch features a small brass ball on a cord — a charming period detail. Lit, the white glass glows warmly, the shade diffusing the light into a soft, enveloping tone that epitomises the Studio Crystal aesthetic.

This lamp is featured by name in the published book on the history of Ateljé Lyktan, where the Studio Crystal series is credited to Hannelore Dreutler and dated to 1978 — confirmation of its place as one of the defining designs in the brand’s catalogue.

The Studio Crystal series was born from the collaboration between Dreutler and Anders Pehrson, who co-founded Studio Glashyttan in Åhus after their shared time at Kosta Glasbruk. Launched in 1978, the series — comprising table lamps, wall lamps, and pendants with handblown glass bases and textile shades — introduced a soft pastel palette to Swedish lighting at a moment when the industry was moving away from bold colour. Pehrson, inspired by interior trends he encountered during a visit to the United States, became the first Swedish lighting manufacturer to champion this direction, and it quickly spread across the broader Swedish lighting and furniture market.

Hannelore Dreutler (1942–2009) trained at Konstfack in Stockholm and spent thirty years at Glashyttan creating some of Sweden’s most beloved glass objects. She passed away in March 2009 at the age of 66.

Great vintage condition. Completely rewired and ready to use. Original cream fabric shade included — some light staining and ageing to the shade consistent with age. Base in excellent order.
