Set of Brass “Swirl” and “Spiral” Candle Holders by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, 1960s
This set of refined four- and five-arm candle holders are by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, and were produced in the late 1950s–1960s. Made of brass, they both feature slim candle stems with small drip trays. The four-arm has a gently curved base, giving it a light, elegant presence typical of Scandinavian mid-century design. The spiral-shaped five-arm candelabra is in the same design language, offering a more dynamic, flowing variation while clearly belonging to the same series.
There is some confusion around the attribution, as this model is sometimes credited to Harry N. Boström for Bo Svensk, but comparisons with documented works suggest it aligns more closely with Gunnar Ander’s designs for Ystad-Metall.
The set is in good condition showing signs of wear and use consistent with their age. The candelabras take small tapered candles with a maximum width of about 12 mm.
