Set of 6 Black Metal Farm Animal Candleholders — Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, 1960s

Among Gunnar Ander’s most famous designs are his playful wrought iron wire animals, produced by Ystad-Metall in Sweden during the 1960s. This charming set brings together six farm animal candleholders: two goats, two horses, a rooster, and a delightful little pig — each one a small character study in black painted metal wire.

What makes these figures so appealing is the variety of techniques Ander employed. Some are built from flowing wire lines, others from flat cut metal silhouettes, yet together they form a wonderfully cohesive and lively little farmyard. Each figure holds one small candle of approximately 10 mm diameter, making them perfect for a Christmas table or as a year-round decorative grouping.

Worth noting for collectors: four of the six figures in this set are featured in the reference book Ystad-Metall 1919–1969 by Jonas Barros Eriksson — a nice confirmation of their place in the canon of Swedish decorative design.
The set is in good vintage condition with patina and wear consistent with their age, which only adds to their charm.
