Pendant Lamp – Plastic and Teak, Model 549 – Uno & Östen Kristiansson for Luxus Vittsjö, Sweden, 1960s

This striking pendant lamp was designed by brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson, who founded Luxus in the small Swedish village of Vittsjö. From the 1950s onward, the Kristiansson brothers built a reputation for inventive, material-driven design — working across glass, teak, plastic, and metal to create lighting and furniture that felt both warm and modern. It was this willingness to experiment with materials that made Luxus one of the more distinctive names in Swedish design of the period.

The Model 549 pendant shows that sensibility beautifully: a bold, sculptural dome in glossy orange plexiglass paired with a solid teak neck, with slender teak pegs holding the inner white diffuser ring in place. The combination of teak’s natural warmth against the vivid plastic is a hallmark of the brothers’ work. Switched off, the shade reads as a striking graphic form; switched on, it glows a warm, golden orange that fills a room with soft, ambient light.

The lamp is in wonderful vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use. The teak pegs holding up the shade are perfect, and there is a barely visible hairline crack at the top of the dome. It has been fully cleaned, checked, and is ready to hang and enjoy. E27 bulb.
