Pair of White Metal “Spiral” Candle holders by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, 1960s
This elegant pair of spiral-shaped five-arm candle holders was designed by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall in Sweden, dating from the late 1950s to the 1960s. Crafted from white metal, they feature slender candle arms, small drip trays, and distinctive spiral-shaped bases with fluid, organic lines that lend the pieces a dynamic, sculptural quality—yet they remain light and balanced in form. A refined expression of Scandinavian mid-century design, they embody the era’s harmony of artistry and craftsmanship.
Attribution note: While this model is occasionally attributed to Harry N. Boström for Bo Svensk, a close examination of the construction, proportions, and design details—along with comparisons to documented works—strongly supports its association with Gunnar Ander and Ystad-Metall.
The pair is in very good condition showing minor wear and damage. The candelabras take small tapered candles with a maximum width of about 12 mm. Marked “Made in Sweden”.
