Pair of Brass, Pink Glass & Rattan Candleholders, Model 3823-94 — Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, late 1950s

Few candleholders from the Swedish mid-century period combine materials with quite this much confidence and charm. The Model 3823-94, designed by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall in the late 1950s, brings together polished brass, hand-wrapped rattan and a beautifully proportioned pink glass cylinder in a composition that is at once practical and sculptural.

The structure is elegant in its logic: three sweeping brass legs curl outward from a conical brass candle cup, forming a stable and visually dynamic tripod base. A single brass arm rises from the base, wrapped at the grip in warm natural rattan, and curves to hold a brass ring that supports the pink glass cylinder above. The cylinder itself — a deep, blush-toned glass in a gently curved shape — sits over the candle to protect the flame and bathe the surrounding space in a warm glow. It is the kind of object that looks beautiful in daylight and magical when lit.

Gunnar Ander was one of Ystad-Metall’s most prolific and celebrated designers, and this model is a particularly fine example of his ability to combine different materials — metal, glass, natural fibre — into something that feels entirely logical. Fittingly, the Model 3823-94 is featured in the definitive reference book Ystad-Metall 1919–1969 by Jonas Barros Eriksson, confirming its place in the history of Swedish decorative design.

Both candleholders are in fantastic vintage condition. The brass frames and conical cups carry a warm patina entirely consistent with their age and history, which only adds to their character. The pink glass cylinders are intact and the rattan wrapping is in good condition on both.
