Orange Plexiglass & Pine Pendant Lamp, Model 30 01.00 — Luxus Vittsjö, Sweden, 1970s
This striking pendant was designed by brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson, who founded Luxus in the small Swedish village of Vittsjö. Starting in the 1950s, the Kristiansson brothers earned a reputation for inventive, material-led design, moving across glass, teak, plexiglass, and metal to create lighting and furniture that managed to feel both warm and modern at once. That readiness to experiment with materials is a large part of what set Luxus apart in Swedish design of the era.
The Model 30 01.00 pendant captures that spirit perfectly: a bold, sculptural shade in matte orange plexiglass paired with a white inner diffuser, all suspended from a solid pine neck. The interplay of pine’s natural warmth against the vivid plastic is a signature move of the brothers’ work. Switched off, the shade stands as a strong graphic form on its own; switched on, it casts a warm, golden-orange glow that fills a space with soft, ambient light.
The lamp remains in lovely vintage condition, showing only minor signs of age. There’s a small hairline crack near the top of the shade, though it doesn’t take away from its overall presence. It still has its original ceiling cup, and both the shade and the ceiling cup carry their original markings. It has been fully cleaned and checked over, and is ready to hang and enjoy.
