Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall — Candlesticks with Lindshammar Glass & Dog Club Plaque – Sweden, 1960s

A rare and story-rich pair of Swedish Mid-Century candlesticks, designed by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall and produced in the 1960s. The design is quintessentially Scandinavian: two conical forms in matte black metal, balanced around a vivid cobalt blue glass disc from Lindshammar Glasbruk — bold, graphic, and elegant all at once.

What elevates this pair beyond the decorative is their hidden life as commissioned objects. Each candlestick bears a brass plaque from Specialklubben för Sällskaps- och Dvärghundar — Norra Avdelningen (The Special Club for Companion and Toy Dogs — Northern Division), depicting three dog breeds in fine relief. These were not off-the-shelf pieces. They were custom-ordered through Formo, a Malmö-based specialist in trophies, prizes, and awards — who sourced the Ystad-Metall candlesticks and fitted the plaques to order. The candlesticks were most likely presented as club awards or commemorative gifts.

Every original label survives: the Ystad-Metall foil tags reading Varan Mönsterskyddad (pattern protected), the Swedish Quality “S” marks (Where Quality is Tradition), and the gold retailer stickers from Formo, Malmö C. Formo was founded in 1962 and — remarkably — continues to trade to this day.

Excellent vintage condition throughout. A pair that speaks equally to lovers of Scandinavian design and collectors of dog show memorabilia. Suitable for regular dining candles (22-25 mm)
