Floor Standing Candelabra with Black & Brass Details – by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall – Sweden, 1960s

A beautifully resolved piece of mid-century Scandinavian design, this five-arm floor candelabra combines graphic simplicity with refined material detail. The slender black-lacquered metal stem rises from a four-legged base, each leg finishing in a polished brass tip — a small but considered touch that lifts the entire piece. Where the arms branch outward, a spiral of brass ribbon wraps the stem, adding a subtle decorative accent without disrupting the clean, architectural lines. Each arm terminates in a tapered conical holder sized for standard dining candles (20–24mm diameter).

Standing 75 cm tall, the candelabra commands real presence while remaining light and open in profile — it reads beautifully from across a room without ever dominating a space. The aesthetic is strongly reminiscent of the work Gunnar Ander produced for Ystad-Metall during this period, and this piece sits comfortably within that tradition of expressive yet restrained Swedish metalwork.

Condition is excellent for its age. The four brass feet are complete and clean, and the brass ribbon detailing is bright and spot-free. The black paint shows light scuffs and patina consistent with sixty years of gentle use, which only add to its character.
