Floor Lamp “Kusk” by Sabina Grubbeson for Konsthantverk Tyringe — Sweden, 2000s

A floor lamp of real character, designed by Sabina Grubbeson and made by Konsthantverk Tyringe in Sweden. Konsthantverk is a brand built on the idea that lighting should feel made by hand — and this lamp makes that case better than most.

Two iron oxide rods cross and lock at a copper disc joint, creating a long arm that reaches out from a slim vertical stem, which can be adjusted in any angle. The head is a small leather-wrapped cylinder — black, stitched, and fixed with brass rivets — opening into a brushed steel cone that directs the light downward. The base is a weighted disc of brushed steel with a tight black leather insert, stitched at the edge. The black braided cord loops elegantly through the joint before running down to the floor. Every material — iron, copper, leather, brass — feels carefully chosen.

The arm pivots at the copper joint, and the head tilts, so the light can be aimed exactly where it is needed. The GU10 lamp throws a focused, directional beam. This is a lamp for reading by, or for picking out a corner of a room.

This example is in excellent condition with only minor signs of use. The copper and iron will continue to develop patina over time — which, with a lamp like this, is always a good thing.
