Floor Lamp by Björn Svensson for Elidus, Sweden, Early 1970s

A characterful floor lamp by one of Sweden’s most celebrated lighting designers — Björn Svensson — manufactured by Elidus in the early 1970s.

The design is quintessential Svensson: purposeful, well-proportioned and thoroughly considered. A polished brass circular base and stem support an articulated brass gooseneck arm, which holds a brushed aluminium shade in warm champagne gold with a black plastic inner diffuser and a mirrored reflective interior. The height of the lamp is adjustable via a screw-lock mechanism. The lamp is switched via a push-button on the black bracket at the gooseneck joint.

This lamp is not in pristine cosmetic condition. The base shows dents and scratches, the shade has some visible marks from previous dents that have been carefully straightened, and there is some slight discolouration to the shade. It is a lamp that has clearly lived a full life.

But for those who love genuine patina — the kind that tells a story and cannot be faked — this piece has an irresistible authenticity and presence. The mechanics work perfectly and the lamp functions as it should. A true vintage object for those who appreciate character over perfection.
