Eric Wärnå for EWÅ Armaturfabrik, Värnamo, Sweden — Model 506 Black & Brass Wall/Table Lamp, 1950s

Black and brass. Two materials, one lamp, and a combination that never goes out of style. This beautifully resolved piece by Eric Wärnå for EWÅ Armaturfabrik is one of those rare vintage lamps that works equally well as a wall lamp or a table lamp — the base incorporates both a flat wall-mounting plate and a stable table-standing foot, making it genuinely versatile in a way that very few lamps of the period can claim.

The deep matte black shrink lacquer of the shade and base creates a rich, almost velvety surface that contrasts with the gleaming brass gooseneck arm and collar fittings in a way that feels both graphic and warm. The shade itself is a clean conical form, its rim punctuated by a ring of small paired slot perforations that allow a gentle pattern of light to escape when the lamp is on, the effect when lit is quietly dramatic.

Looking at the underside of the base the EWÅ logo, “Värnamo” origin mark and Swedish “S” safety certification are clearly stamped, confirming both the manufacturer and the quality of construction.

EWÅ Armaturfabrik was one of Sweden’s most respected mid-century lighting manufacturers, known for combining precision metalworking with the clean, functional aesthetic of Swedish modernism. Their lamps were built to last — and the condition of this one, over seventy years later, proves the point.

The Model 506 is in wonderful vintage condition, showing only minor signs of age and use entirely consistent with its history. It takes an E27 light source.
