Brass and Teak Candelabra by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall, Sweden, 1950s

This sculptural three-arm candelabra was designed by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall in Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted in brass and set on a circular teak base, the design reflects Ander’s refined approach to modernism—where clean lines and balanced proportions create a strong visual identity with minimal elements.

The slender brass structure rises from the teak base in a graceful, almost architectural form. The central stem extends upward to a single candle holder, while two angled arms branch out symmetrically to the sides. The conical candle cups add a subtle decorative detail while maintaining the overall simplicity of the composition. The combination of warm brass and richly toned wood is characteristic of Scandinavian design from the period, where natural materials and modern form were carefully balanced.

Gunnar Ander was one of Ystad-Metall’s most influential designers, known for elevating functional objects into sculptural interior pieces. This candelabra is a clear example of his ability to create striking silhouettes through restraint and precision, making it as compelling unlit as it is in use.

This candelabra is in very good condition with two minor spots on the edge of the brass base plate, which are barely visible. It takes three tapered candles with a maximum diameter of around 12 mm.
