Blue “Skarabé” Floor Lamp — Stig Ahlström & Clas Kock for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden, 1982

Designed in 1982 by Stig Ahlström and Clas Kock for Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, the Skarabé series stands as one of the most iconic expressions of Swedish lighting design from the 1980s. The series launched with the table lamp (model 9936), followed by this floor lamp (model 9937), and completed by the wall lamp (model 9938).

What makes the Skarabé so compelling is its balance of opposites — a sleek, streamlined silhouette paired with bold black grid-like detailing, minimalism meeting something almost otherworldly. With its adjustable mirrors and upward-reaching form, the lamp evokes a carnivorous plant, making it as visually captivating when unlit as when casting light. The body is constructed entirely from metal, with only the switch housing in plastic, and the adjustable mirrors allow for full control over the direction of light projection. It takes a GU5.3 light source, which is included.

This example in blue is particularly rare. It is in very good vintage condition — the body and base show only slight, age-consistent traces of wear, and the lamp is fully functional with no breaks or major damage. One mirror has a very minor chip in one corner, though it is barely noticeable without handling the piece directly.
