A pair of white “Skarabé” wall lamps by Stig Ahlström and Clas Kock for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden, 1980s

This is the lamp series where my love for Swedish light design began; the “Skarabé” series. The series was designed in 1982 by Stig Ahlström and Clas Kock for Ateljé Lyktan in Ahus, Sweden. The first model was the table lamp (model 9936), followed by the floor lamp (model 9937) and last the wall lamp (model 9938). The design is so simple, yet so intriguing. The sleek streamlined body with the black grid-like detailing form a beautiful contrast. The adjustable mirrors allow for any light projection direction. The lamp’s design resembles a carnivorous plant, making the design both minimalistic and nature-inspired. The lamp is made of metal with only the switch housing made of plastic. This pair of 9938s Skarabés is very rare. It is a 100% matching pair with the bodies and mirrors in very good vintage condition showing slight traces of use consistent with their age and are fully functional. They still have their original transformers. The rubbers which allow the mirrors to pivot are slightly worn but does not influence their function. We strongly believe the “Skarabé” will soon be recognised as one of the iconic pieces of Swedish lighting design and will become very collectable. The lamp requires a GU5.3 light source and is included.
